history:
Alexander Géarchuiseach was a tall young man that hated working at his father’s tire store. Curly red hair that fell everywhere, green eyes that wanted to watch nature just do its own thing. He hated being stuck inside a musty old shop full of rubber and old ladies that didn’t understand that white-walled tires were a thing of the past. So he left. Traveling into the countryside and using the money he had to purchase a bit of “unusable” land had been his best decision of his life. Well, second best. Because once he got his land to be crop yielding, he started to grow grains of wheat and rye barley. And when he obtained a bit of money from that, a small herd of sheep. And some dogs to go along with it to keep said herd in line, and sell the pups to neighboring farms and even children looking for a loyal friend.
His second best decision. Because his first best was going into town some years later, and coming across an enigmatic, beautiful young lady with short brown hair and grey eyes. And marrying her. And having a child that looked so very much like himself. And a year and a day later, having a second child that took much more after his mother than his father.
Adam at first loved being the younger brother to Jasper. His older brother would trot around with him, showing him all sorts of secrets around their farm; where to catch the fattest frogs, how to pile the hay around yourself so you could startle the sheep when they came to eat, how to convince the sweet shop in town to give you free samples. Adam loved his big brother. Until Jasper started to take over some of the farm duties. Then he rarely had time for Adam after that. And with Jasper learning all the tools of the trade there was little else for Adam to do. Alexander would let Jasper ride on the tractor, but it was too crowded for Adam to join them. Jasper was better with the dogs than Adam was, so Adam wasn’t in charge of caring for them. He was to watch over the sheep. So he would sit on the hills, and watch the herd. And be bored. Very very bored. There was no driving, no playing fetch. Just watching sheep eat the grass and cry to each other about how hard it was to be a sheep.
He did get to have some fun though. As the two of them aged Jasper found ways to wiggle out of work and take Adam exploring. He lived for those moments. The chance to get away from the stupid sheep and out into the hills of Ireland, running and rolling through the grass and finding the secrets the old land hid. And on even better days, Jasper would take Adam into the wood shop and let him help with his model boats. Those were the times Adam loved the most, to be with his best friend, and ignore the petty jealousy he felt every time he heard the dogs bark or the tractor make another pass.
And then Jasper got his letter, and went off to school. And Adam was left behind, trying to take over Jasper’s chores while he was away. At first he was thrilled! HE got to sit in the tractor and learn how to plant crops! HE got to take care of the dogs and not the boring sheep for a change!
Until it was revealed that Alexander would take over the fields again, not Adam. And then a nasty bite from one of the dogs on his ankle frightened him so much he refused to go near them. It was that year that Adam decided he hated farming, and would not take over the business when he grew up. When Jasper came home he found his brother unwilling to speak to him for most of the summer. Until Adam’s own letter came via owl. Then they were best friends all over again.
Being sorted into Slytherin had been a wonderful moment. He wouldn’t have to listen to his brother gloat about being in the same house. He could set his own name. He could study on his own and do what he wanted to do. And he didn’t have to be around dogs or sheep or farms of any kind. But that didn’t last long either. “Aren’t you brothers with that Ravenclaw?” became all too familiar a phrase. So in order to distance himself further, and make his own name for himself, he tried out for the Quidditch team. While Jasper might be unsure of wanting to return to the muggle world after school or not, Adam knows one hundred percent that he is never, ever, going back.

rp example:
Jazz was flying off into the afternoon sky. Odd for an owl, but necessary. Mother had to be updated on everything after all. It had taken Adam all morning to write a letter to Mummy, trying to think of the right words to describe the match without getting too graphic about his rather illegal move. Okay, so maybe knocking the Hufflepuff Chaser off their broom wasn’t required, or even remotely called for. But they had given Adam a nasty look, and needed to be shown that you don’t mess with a Slytherin. It’s not like Hufflepuff was going to win anyway. The kid would be fine.
Mostly.
As the brown speck disappeared above the horizon of trees and lakes, Adam turned his back from the window and sat on the dropping and hay strewn floor. The owls above him rustled in their sleep, a few opening a single eye to glare at him for wakening them for no reason. But Adam didn’t notice. He was too lost in the memory of the game. It had been wonderful. The sky had been crystal clear, the air had been warm without being hot, the breeze was in their favor, and he had managed to get a school broom that wasn’t shoddy. He couldn’t afford his own broom, so he used the school broom until he could save up the money to purchase one for his fifth year. He’d be sixteen then, surely he could justify buying a broom with his holiday money!
He had gotten good speed going, dodging below bright yellow players on his way to the goals, narrowly missing a bludger aimed at his head. He had shot the quaffle, and sadly missed. But made up for it by getting the ball back from Hufflepuff by blatching the student off their broom. It had been a dirty move, a rough one, which had landed him a nasty foul to his name. The Hufflepuff had managed to take a penalty shot, but had missed from how badly they had been shaking. And had landed the ball back into Slytherin’s court.
All in all, a marvelous game! Grinning quietly to himself Adam ignored the birds around him as they started to rouse, the setting of the sun calling them for dinner. He hadn’t realized he had been sitting there that long and still didn’t. It was nice to sit and just revel in the moment of a game well played.
